ASSEMBLING A BLACK COUNTER CULTURE
The first of two pieces airing this week from DeForrest Brown, Jr. His discussion of “the state of Black representation across the music industry, covering a general history of Black music (with a focus on techno) as it relates to the general development of on-the-ground music cultures” becomes here an hour-long visual essay with footage crafted by Virtually Real. 👀
The talk was described as a “strikingly courageous performance” by Will Lynch at Resident Advisor when originally delivered at Unsound 2019, and is the basis for a book of the same title coming in Fall 2020 via PrimaryInformation. While airing this and a second piece on Friday, we will be raising awareness and funds for The Movement for Black Lives as they prepare for their Juneteenth #SixNineteen weekend of protests.
