Muntasir “Monti the DJ” Mohamed is the exception. Born and raised in Khartoum, Sudan not only did he defy the odds by surviving the war-torn country, he rose above it and took on the world – literally.
His love for music started in high school when he first discovered his talent for playing keyboards and unlike most kids from his hometown Monti spent his spare time creating beats and instrumentals with whatever he could get his hands on. It was at this point that he realized his passion and laid down his path to commence his journey as a DJ.
First stop, Los Angeles, California – the city of dreams. His stand-out talent managed to cut through the clutter and he got his first real break, as a radio DJ not long after having arrived from Africa. He became a true student of his craft and when he wasn’t working he was networking and when he wasn’t networking he was studying his DJ influencers, Jam Master Jay , DJ Premier, Dr Dre and Jermaine Dupri to name just a few and equally important to Monti was overall knowledge on the history of Hip-Hop and R&B music as a whole – so study it, he did.
After a five year stint in California an offer presented itself to Monti, an offer too good to refuse. It was time for the next stop in his journey, this time it was the land of pyramids – Egypt.
Here he became the resident DJ for “The Black Prince Discoteque” and onwards “Tota Dance Bar, “The Tree Bar”, “Nesima Rooftop Bar” and “Rush Club”.
The idyllic island of Koh Samui situated in the Gulf of Thailand is known for its palm tree lined beaches, luxury resorts and its party/nightlife scene, it attracts crowds from all over the world all year round and in 2010 it became the next destination for Monti. He was booked to play the anniversary party of one of the island’s landmark venues “The Reggae Pub” and that night he not only pleased the capacity crowd but also, the owner of the biggest club on the island – “The Green Mango”.
Again, an opportunity too good to pass up on, Monti took the leap and commenced his yearlong residency at the world famous club. The island life loved Monti and likewise he felt a sense of home in Samui and as his presence on the island grew, so too did the propositions for club residencies both locally and abroad. One of those was from “Hush Bar” Monti knew right away that it was the perfect fit for his DJ style and out-going personality. Since Monti became part of the Hush crew, he has not only kept dance floors packed, his popularity with the party-goers has also helped facilitate the club’s success with becoming the number one Hip-Hop and R&B venue on the island.
A career thus far that spans itself all over the globe proves that Monti is a world class international entertainer who consistently “rock’s the party” by broadening his specialty in Hip-Hop and R&B to an eclectic format of Top 40, Old School Classics, Reggae and Dance Hall according to diversity of the crowd. When you couple all of together with being no stranger to hard work it’s relevant as to why Monti the DJ has established himself as one of the most prominent DJs on the South-East Asia club circuit.
