Over the last two decades Reggaetón has become a globally dominant genre that has exerted a game-changing impact on the global music industry and pop culture. Red Bull Music Festival will celebrate the genre with Hasta Abajo, a show featuring Reggaetón trailblazers Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson, Ranking Stone, Alberto Stylee, Micol Super Star, and DJ Negro, performing as The Noise, the group who helped blaze the pathway for the genre’s international trajectory from the barrios of Puerto Rico to the world. Also performing is industry legend DJ Lobo, and rising música urbana stars, Riobamba and Rosa Pistola, two artists who are leading Reggaetón’s evolution from the streets of Brooklyn and Mexico City, respectively. The event takes place Saturday, May 19th at Uptown Manhattan’s famed Latino nightlife hub, La Marina.
All the proceeds from the event’s ticket sales will be donated to Rock Steady For Life, a relief campaign started by legendary New York breakdancer Richard Colón (aka Crazy Legs) dedicated to helping the people of Puerto Rico in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria - and beyond. The partnership will be a continuation of Legs’ commitment to mobilizing artists of the Puerto Rican diaspora to raise funds and support on-the-ground efforts on the island by working actively with organizations like El Departmento De La Comida, MPOWERD, Off-The-Grid Missions, and Waves For Water. There is no better way to honor Reggaeton’s Puerto Rican roots than to make this event not only a celebration of the island’s cultural impact but also an opportunity to mobilize the diaspora and help give back in a time of need.
