During carnival season, a child's role is crucial in ensuring our vibrant traditions continue on.
"Catholics may have used the festival/carnival ("farewell to meat") format to celebrate Lent, but it is the ancient African traditions of parading, moving in circles through villages, dawning costumes & masks, and dancing that makes Carnival, CARNIVAL. Our African ancestors believed circling villages brought good fortune, healed problems and pacified ancestors in the spirit world."
Join us Saturday, February 9th for our FREE family program, Carnival SouSou! Our Carnival Traditions. The event highlights the rich history of the festival through a special Kiddie Carnival w/ Marjuan Canady, Trinidad style mask making, and a fun Brazilian carnival dance workshop.
Bring your whole family!
