“First off I hope you’re all staying safe and making the most of this lockdown.
So, my name is Aaron, but everyone calls me Poi and I am one of the managers at camel club and I’ve been working at camel now for like 6 years, 8 in total I think if you add the two years I worked before moving to Aberdeen.
The reason I’m known as poi is because when I first started many many years ago (before moving to Aberdeen) we had two Aarons working and it was a little annoying for our supervisors at the time to get the right Aarons attention on the bar so we came up with our nicknames, mine obviously poi because I do poi (I know, wow original) and the other Aaron was known as emo (yes he looked like a emo) Emo if you’re reading this sorry pal you can’t escape the name. Some of you maybe know me as the guy with the crazy hair or dreads guy.
I think by far my favourite night of the week has to be BEDLAM I’ve always loved Friday nights at camel even before I started working there (back when you could smoke inside…yes I’m that old! I remember being able to smoke in clubs and bars). Every week I look forward to a little rock music and the crowd that comes in, I know most of the people that come in on our Friday nights as well, well it’s the same lovely smiley friendly faces every week. But yea Friday nights and rock music (so much for it being a “phase”)
Don’t get me wrong every night of the week Is awesome. Definitely a very close 2nd is Funday Monday as we have so many different theme nights where we get to dress up like its Halloween all over again and who does not love getting dressed up.
If I had to pick one night though out of the whole year its by far the Funday Monday birthday night (our circus theme night) if you have been to one you will know why, if you haven’t been to one then well you’re missing out big time, we have lots of games inside and outside the club everyone gets dressed up, so many prizes to win , amazing music from our resident DJ Simon g, we have had pie fights and all sorts of crazy fun things but I think for me it’s because I get to do my favourite thing… play with fire …its maybe not what you think then again maybe it is, I do fire breathing fire poi fire staff some fire eating I even get to walk around inside and do some indoor performing like juggling or glow poi.
I love camel club it’s the best job I’ve ever had. Because of the people I get to work with, the amazing bar staff, the awesome door team, the super DJs, our top shelf managers and most of all our very own Mr bongo Dave … But hey it wouldn’t be half as fun without all of you! our awesome customers that keep us going every week.
