Happy #BlackDiasporaMonth!

#BlackDiasporaMonth is a celebration of Black people, African descendants, who were forcibly taken to the Caribbean, Latin American, and the United States during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

This hashtag aims to unify and bridge the gap between Black people created by colonization, imperialism, nationality, language, and geography.

We start off by highlight the #BlackGuyanese National Leader, Cuffy.

Cuffy, an indigenous African man of Akan descent, led a revolt known as the "Berbice Slave Rebellion," in 1763 of more than 2,500 enslaved Africans against the colonial regime. From February to December they controlled the southern part of Berbice but were defeated due to internal strife amongst the rebellion camp and an attack from colonial forces from France and the United Kingdom.

Cuffy is a national Hero in Guyana and has a statue in his honor in the Square of the Revolution in the capital Georgetown.
